Abstract
This track aims to strengthen engagement between researchers and practitioners in R&D and innovation management. The track invites contributions that demonstrate how theories and frameworks are applied in practice, as well as how practical challenges can inspire new research directions. It will showcase case studies, collaborative research projects, and practitioner reflections that highlight lessons learned in managing R&D and innovation across diverse sectors. Through interactive sessions, discussions, and practitioner panels, the track will provide a space for mutual learning, dialogue, and the co-creation of actionable knowledge that advances both management scholarship and professional practice in R&D and innovation.
Description
The practice of managing R&D and innovation has never been more complex or consequential. Organisations are grappling with rapid technological change, global supply chain pressures, sustainability imperatives, and heightened uncertainty. While academic research in R&D management continues to advance theory and conceptual understanding, practitioners often face the challenge of translating these insights into action within fast-moving and resource-constrained environments. Conversely, the day-to-day experiences of R&D managers and innovators are rich with insights that could significantly inform research agendas - if more effective mechanisms for dialogue and knowledge exchange were in place.
This track seeks to bridge that gap. It provides a dedicated forum for practitioners, policymakers, consultants, and academics to share experiences, approaches, and reflections on managing innovation in real-world contexts. The emphasis is on practice-informed and practice-oriented contributions—those that not only describe what organisations are doing but also derive analytical insights that can shape broader understanding of innovation management.
Ultimately, this track seeks to contribute to a more connected R&D management community - one that values both scholarly rigour and practical relevance. By bringing practitioners and researchers into closer conversation, it will help identify new questions, develop shared frameworks, and strengthen the impact of R&D management research on practice, policy, and organisational performance.
